The AKC's motto is "Integrity" and publicly pretend to support animal welfare but they donate thousands a year to politicians who are anti-animal welfare and the they help fight puppy mill laws. They also help puppy mills deceive the public into believing they are who to look for when purchasing a dog.

Take the first step to stopping puppy mills by signing this petition!

The AKC breeder of Merit program, if you see a breeder with this title the odds are they are a puppy mill, so take caution!

Here are the requirements to be a breeder of merit, straight off the AKC website.

  • Has a history of at least 5 years involvement with AKC events.
  • Earned AKC Conformation, Performance or Companion* event titles on a minimum of 4 dogs from AKC litters they bred/co-bred.
  • Member of an AKC club.
  • Certifies that applicable health screens are performed on your breeding stock as recommended by the Parent Club.
  • Demonstrates a commitment to ensuring 100% of the puppies produced are AKC registered.

Where are the requirements that the breeder provides excellent care for the animals they are making a living from??

Where are the requirements that the breeder has a good record of customer service with their buyers (no unresolved complaints)?? I personally oversaw several complaints directly to the AKC about a breeder of merit/judge who has single handedly ruined the health of my beloved Tibetan Mastiff.

As you can see from the above requirements is all about funneling money to this $60 million a year "non profit" organization.

If the AKC was not around to support puppy mills our shelters would not be flooded. Please help put an end to this needless suffering.

AKC papers are NOT proof of ownership, you cannot prove in court that your beloved pet is yours with that paperwork.

AKC papers are not even proof of parentage/pedigree. Breeders can use the same "Champion" over and over on their AKC papers to extort more money from you while selling you pups from any of their lesser quality stock.

A simple DNA requirement from the AKC could put a stop to this but instead they impose a $500 fee to anyone who wants to question the parentage of their AKC dog..
Why is it not the breeders responsibility?

So why do so many Americans waste their hard earned money on a piece of paper that is worth less than the toilet paper you wipe your bum with?

AKC champions are not even proof of quality. All it means is a breeder sat in a ring or show over and over until they accumulated enough points to earn Champion status.

I would LOVE for the AKC to practice what they pretend to be. I think breeding should be governed and treated like any other business. It is my dream to one day see it happen.
